Taking on the Yorkshire hills at the Ilkley 2-Day

Sunday 7 May

Theo, Elliot and Ash were over in West Yorkshire for the Ilkley 2-day. They faced a prologue, a team time trial and two hilly road stages against a strong field of 75 riders.

The prologue on Saturday morning saw Theo ride to a strong 12th place on the 1.5-mile course. The road race in the afternoon was made up of 5 laps of a hilly 11 mile circuit. Unfortunately Elliot suffered a mechanical on the second lap which put an end to his stage. Ash was riding very well near the front of the race but just faded towards the end. Theo rode strongly to finish 14th on the stage and maintain his 12th overall.

Sunday morning saw each of the 25 teams take on a 5.5-mile team time trial, a discipline we rarely get the opportunity to tackle. Our boys smashed the course to finish 9th and 2nd Junior team. This kept Theo up in 12th on GC.

Sunday afternoon’s stage featured a brutal hill which the riders went up five times. This gradually wore down the field and unfortunately our riders missed the split to the front group but Theo and Elliot battled on valiantly to finish 22nd and 24th respectively. Theo just slipped down to 21st overall but this was still a commendable result after a brutal weekend of racing.
